Kora joins IATA's payment network to simplify airline transactions across Africa
Nigerian payment infrastructure platform Kora has joined the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Financial Gateway (IFG), connecting global airlines to Africa's payment ecosystem through a single integration. Airlines and travel agencies using IFG can now accept payments across Africa via Kora, including cards, bank transfers, mobile money and local alternative payment methods, removing the need to manage multiple payment service provider relationships independently. IATA currently represents over 370 international airlines globally, all of which now have direct access to Kora's payment infrastructure across its African markets.
The integration addresses a long-standing operational challenge for international carriers seeking to enter or expand across African markets, where fragmented payment systems, foreign exchange complexity and disconnected settlement infrastructure have historically created friction. Africa's aviation sector is among the fastest-growing in the world, with the continent projected to add more than 300 million new passengers by 2050. Key markets covered by Kora's infrastructure include Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Egypt and South Africa, with the partnership positioned to support airlines in building cost-effective, locally compliant payment strategies across the continent.
