Keynan Fintech to Simplify Payments for Tourists
Kenyan fintech firm Craft Silicon has launched TouristTap, a mobile app that transforms any NFC-enabled smartphone into a secure point-of-sale device, enabling international visitors to pay with their Visa or Mastercard without the need for cash, card machines, or currency exchange. The app, certified by Visa and Mastercard and compliant with global payment standards, aims to ease common payment barriers for tourists, from safaris to local markets.
TouristTap supports transactions across mobile wallets, till numbers, and bank accounts, offering greater reach for small-scale vendors and informal tourism operators. Backed by rising digital payments in Kenya—valued at $4.2 billion in 2024 according to the Central Bank—the app is positioned to boost visitor convenience and revenue across the tourism value chain. Craft Silicon plans to expand TouristTap to other African travel destinations to address payment challenges across the continent.
