Kenya Strengthens Wildlife Health Infrastructure with New Conservation Laboratory
Kenya has strengthened its wildlife health capabilities with the launch of the Laboratory in Northern Kenya (LiNK) at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.
Developed through a partnership involving Kenya Wildlife Service, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Northern Rangelands Trust, and several conservation organisations, the facility will enable faster diagnosis and treatment of wildlife diseases and injuries. Previously, samples collected in remote northern landscapes had to travel long distances for analysis, delaying veterinary responses.
The new laboratory represents an important investment in the scientific infrastructure that underpins Kenya's wildlife tourism sector. Improved disease surveillance and ecosystem management will help safeguard biodiversity while supporting the long-term sustainability of one of Africa's most important safari destinations.
