Kenya and Tanzania sign eight agreements to deepen regional cooperation

Kenya and Tanzania have signed eight new cooperation agreements covering sectors including energy, agriculture, railways, maritime transport, public service development and standards harmonisation. The agreements were signed during Kenyan President William Ruto’s state visit to Tanzania and form part of broader efforts to strengthen economic ties and regional integration within the East African Community.

The two countries also committed to removing remaining non-tariff trade barriers by June 2026 to improve the movement of goods and services across borders. Key initiatives include plans to revive the Voi–Taveta railway line, improve energy connectivity and streamline certification standards between the two markets. Leaders from both countries said the strengthened partnership is expected to support trade growth, investment and tourism across the region.
