Head of Market (B2B safari trade) – North America or Europe
ROLE: Head of Market (B2B safari trade) – North America or Europe
LOCATION: Johannesburg / Cape Town (or Maun / Vic Falls) – remote role, with regular travel regionally and internationally
REPORTING: Sales Director, Victoria Troskie
Are you a seasoned B2B safari trade sales professional with an established network of travel trade partners in the USA or Europe who believes in the positive impact ecotourism can bring to Africa?
Wild Expeditions is a pioneering collective of safari camps and expeditions operating in remote parts of Africa since the late 1990s. Our camps include Karangoma in Botswana, Lale’s Camp in Ethiopia, Masoala Forest Lodge in Madagascar and Camp Hwange and Muddy Teak in Zimbabwe. Our camps are small (4-8 rooms), intimate, appropriate and always in exceptional locations. We emphasize excellent guiding and warm hospitality over traditional hotel luxury. For us, space, intact ecosystems, wild encounters and interpersonal connection are the luxury. We want our guests to connect to nature and to people and leave with an understanding of and love for the natural world.
Despite the diverse nationalities and backgrounds across the Wild Expeditions team, we all share a passionate belief in a few important things.
- Firstly, ecotourism1 as a central pivot of the wildlife economy, is a critically important driver of African conservation;
- Secondly, rural people (often neighbours or owners of conservation areas) are a vital part of modern conservation;
- Thirdly, the planet, its ecosystem services and its biodiversity are a shared natural heritage and an understanding of, and connection with, nature is necessary for the healthy future of the human race.
We are looking for an experienced Head of Market for a specific market with the above beliefs to build and grow mutually beneficial trade relationships with agents, tour operators and safari specialists based either in North America (USA; Canada) or Europe — driving bookings, strengthening brand visibility and supporting sustainable growth across these key markets.
What we are looking for:
- A shared commitment to the above principles and a passion for African ecotourism, conservation and community engagement;
- An established trade network in North America or the EU: agents, tour operators, safari specialists;
- 8–10 years' experience in the African safari / ecotourism industry, including 4–5 years in trade sales (and ideally some lodge/field experience as well; and certainly a well-rounded knowledge of African biodiversity);
- Proven success growing trade relationships, bookings and new agent accounts;
- Confident host of educationals, trade fairs and client presentations, in person and online;
- Outstanding relationship-building, communication and presentation skills with excellent knowledge of the pan-African ecotourism industry;
- Strong financial acumen and computer skills (Excel & PowerPoint);
- A genuine, demonstrable commitment to conservation, community and the belief that ecotourism drives both.
- Willing and able to travel extensively for trade visits, fairs and events — valid driver's licence and own vehicle required.
