Gabon plans major new airport project to boost tourism and logistics
Gabon is planning the construction of a major new airport development as part of broader efforts to strengthen transport infrastructure, tourism and regional logistics capacity. The project, estimated at around R1.8 billion, will reportedly include a 3.5-kilometre runway, a 35,000-square-metre terminal and supporting infrastructure across a large development area of approximately 30,000 hectares.
The planned airport is expected to improve connectivity, support cargo and passenger movement, and position Gabon as a more competitive regional hub for trade and tourism. Infrastructure investment continues to play a key role in many African countries’ long-term tourism and economic development strategies, with improved air access viewed as essential for attracting international visitors and investment.
