Everwild to Host Guests at Kasanka for 2026 Bat Migration Season
Everwild has confirmed it will operate its semi-permanent bushcamp in Zambia's Kasanka National Park during the 2026 bat migration season, welcoming guests from 25 October to 1 December 2026. The operation has received approval from both the Kasanka Trust and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), and will run as a fully self-sufficient mobile camp following the closure of Wasa Lodge for the 2026 season. Alternative arrangements have been put in place for guests who had originally booked at Wasa Lodge.
The annual arrival of straw-coloured fruit bats (Eidolon helvum) at Kasanka is considered one of Africa's most remarkable wildlife events, with up to an estimated 10 million bats converging on a small area of evergreen swamp forest between October and December - described by the Kasanka Trust as possibly the largest concentration of mammals known in the world. With only six guest tents available, capacity is strictly limited. Access to the camp is available via SkyTrails charter flights from Lusaka to Mulembo, self-drive, or private road transfers arranged by Everwild at US$750 per vehicle. Site preparations, including repairs to bat hides and maintenance of the access road and airstrip, are currently under way.
