Cape Town launches digital wine tourism guide

Cape Town has unveiled a new digital initiative to boost wine tourism, showcasing three of the region's premier wine routes through an interactive guide called Wineland Wonders.
The project, launched by Economic Growth Committee Member Alderman James Vos, aims to spotlight roughly 40 wine estates across the Constantia, Helderberg, and Durbanville wine valleys. The guide features an innovative WhatsApp channel and seamless Google Maps integration for easy navigation.
The initiative comes as wine tourism proves increasingly valuable to South Africa's economy, having contributed R3.05 billion in 2022. According to the South African Wine Industry Information and Systems, the Western Cape's wine sector generated over 245,000 jobs that year, creating 3.36 positions per R1 million invested—nearly triple the national average.
Users can access detailed information about wine varieties, restaurant offerings, and scenic venues through the digital platform. "Our world-class wines represent a fantastic value proposition for both tourists and economic growth," said Vos, emphasising the guide's role in helping visitors and locals explore the region's celebrated vineyards.
The new platform aims to make Cape Town's wine experiences more accessible whilst supporting continued growth in the sector.
