Bo-Kaap Market officially opens in Cape Town

The City of Cape Town has officially opened the Bo-Kaap Market on 14 and 15 February 2026, formalising it as a permanent public trading space after operating since December 2025. The launch, attended by Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and Alderman James Vos, aims to support local entrepreneurs and showcase the area’s cultural heritage, adding a community-led attraction to Cape Town’s visitor offer.

Operating on weekends from 10:00 to 19:00, the market hosts food traders, creatives and small businesses offering Cape Malay cuisine, fresh produce, crafts and local memorabilia. The initiative forms part of the City’s R270 million three-year investment in trading infrastructure upgrades across the metro, intended to enhance facilities for traders and deliver a better experience for residents and tourists.
