Beitbridge clears 13,000 travellers daily as festive peak nears

Beitbridge Border Post is processing about 13,000 travellers a day as festive‑season volumes build, with Zimbabwean and South African authorities implementing a joint traffic‑flow plan running to 15 January 2026 to improve efficiency and safety. Between 6 and 12 December, immigration cleared roughly 8,000 arrivals and 5,000 departures daily, signalling a steady build‑up ahead of the peak.

The modernised crossing now permanently separates traffic streams across three automated terminals – for buses, light vehicles and pedestrians, and freight – supported by an Online Border Management System and eGates to speed processing, officials said. South Africa’s Border Management Authority has activated its 2025/26 plan, with major corridors under full monitoring and extended operating hours of 16 to 24 hours at select ports; off‑peak daily volumes at Beitbridge are around 15,000 travellers and 1,000 trucks, typically doubling during the holidays.
