Africa urged to redefine global presence for businesses

African nations must take charge in promoting the continent's tourism offerings to the world, South Africa's Deputy Tourism Minister Fish Mahlalela stated at the Africa Travel Indaba in Durban.

"It is up to us as Africans to open the world's eyes to what we have to offer and control our narrative," Mahlalela said at the Business Opportunity Networking Day preceding the May 14-16 travel trade show.

He emphasised transformation is crucial for South Africa's tourism sector amid inequality, highlighting progress in developing small businesses and township tourism experiences. Several industry leaders shared insights at the event. The Indaba aims to boost Africa's global tourism presence through industry collaboration and transformation across the sector.
