Africa Geographic’s much-anticipated Photographer of the Year 2026 is now open for entries. This year, the three winning photographers and their partners will receive an extraordinary safari prize: an expedition to the enchanted forests of Rwanda's Nyungwe National Park, presented by Africa Geographic in association with Ukuri and African Parks.

Each year, Africa Geographic’s Photographer of the Year invites storytellers from around the world to share their finest photos of Africa’s wildlife, people, landscapes and fleeting wild moments. From thousands of entries, AG selects and celebrates the photographs that best capture the spirit of Africa – images that stir emotion, reveal truth, and honour the continent’s untamed beauty. This is your chance to turn vision into adventure.

Photographer of the Year 2026 winners will join an Africa Geographic expedition to Nyungwe National Park in Rwanda to search for chimpanzees, troops of over 400 colobus monkeys, and birds found nowhere else in the world. This breathtaking safari includes seven nights of adventure: five nights at incredible Munazi Lodge in the heart of Nyungwe and two in Kigali.

Nyungwe National Park is one of Africa’s most pristine national parks, recognised for its minimal ecological footprint. Munazi Lodge is the only accommodation within the park, offering guests an exclusive and intimate safari experience. This approach offers some of the most authentic, raw wildlife encounters anywhere on Earth. In addition to chimpanzees and colobus monkeys, the park is home to 13 primate species, including L’Hoest’s monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and owl-faced monkeys. It also hosts more than 300 bird species, including numerous Albertine Rift endemics such as the Rwenzori turaco and red-collared mountain babbler.

Munazi Lodge, an African Parks-run camp, is a fully catered, unfenced forest lodge. Being the only lodge in Nyungwe National Park, winners will enjoy over 100,000 hectares of untouched forest wilderness right at their doorstep. With expert guides, they will explore and photograph Africa's largest protected afromontane forest.

Photographer of the Year 2026 is now open for entries and will close at midnight on 7 May 2026. The annual photographic competition celebrates Africa, with entrants contributing breathtaking images of the continent, from wildlife action and safari experiences to African culture and landscapes.
