Addis Ababa ready for AU Summit – hospitality and venues expanded
Addis Ababa has finalised preparations to host the African Union meetings, with the Executive Council set for 11–12 February, the Italy–Africa Summit on 13 February, and the AU Summit on 14–15 February 2026. The city’s readiness is underpinned by major corridor upgrades, riverside rehabilitation, improved road networks, and expanded hotel and conference infrastructure, reinforcing its role as Africa’s diplomatic capital.
The Addis Ababa Hotel Owners Association said hotels across the capital have completed preparations, with both established and new properties increasing capacity and tailoring services for delegates. Modernisation and expansion of conference centres have accelerated MICE growth – more than 50 international and continental events were hosted in six months last year – while tour operators are coordinating curated city visits. The upgrades support forthcoming large-scale events, including COP32 in 2027, positioning the city for continued diplomatic and business tourism.
