The month of September was a unique and exciting one for the communities in the Dete area, on the border of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. Conservation Music, an organization dedicated to environmental music production workshops stayed at Mambanje Primary School to learn and co-produce a song and music video about the community based conservation challenges, ethos and efforts in the area.

The Global Travel and Tourism Resilience Council was held at Constitution Hill, Johannesburg on Wednesday 24th July. The conference invited delegates from across our African borders and the globe to voice and share information and industry knowledge. The day consisted of a variety of panel discussions based on developing resilience in African tourism to enable us on the African continent to better equip, prepare and empower ourselves to ensure we can sustain and meet projected tourism growth despite foreseen and unforeseen crisis.

Southern African safari operator, African Bush Camps (ABC), has declared 25 November ‘World Safari Day’ - an annual occasion that celebrates Africa’s wildlife and its people. African Bush Camps has joined forces with How Many Elephants to support their annual talk held at the prestigious Royal Geographical Society in London on 6th June. This years talk ‘On the Front Line’ offers an evening of adventure with inspirational speakers from the front line of conservation in Africa. As a conservation driven organization African Bush Camps promote and influence travel to Africa on a global scale while operating with an environmentally sustainable footprint. Employing an ethos that strives to empower local communities in the areas in which they operate, a strong focus on conservation is at the heart of their operation.

It was from the beginning that African Bush Camps recognized that to be a successful safari company there was a need to come together with surrounding communities and pioneer conservation, education and community empowerment efforts. It was with this realization that African Bush Camps and the African Bush Camps Foundation formed simultaneously, creating a fine balance of a tourism, conservation and community development company.

We work in an industry where communication is key, collaboration is essential and evoking new ideas to adapt to travel trends is critical. Travel shows are the pinnacle platform. African Bush Camps will be present at both PURE and SANGANAI to catalyze the energy and share our news.

“Nyamatusi” –lightly translates to “Wild Game,” this transcends perfectly to its location. Nyamatusi is set in one of the most remote parts of Africa the old untouched landscape of Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe. African Bush Camps are proud to announce this wonderful addition to our Mana Pools portfolio which provides a signature alternate for our guests travelling in the area. Nyamatusi Camp welcomed our first guests on the 1st April in time for the beginning of the Mana Pools season. Our first guests were met by a jubilant team who were thrilled to see how all their hard work had paid off. Nyamatusi will enchant visitors with uninterrupted views of the Zambezi River and the escarpment beyond, the camp is submerged in raw Africa and surrounded by wild game.

African Bush Camps will kickstart our latest fundraising event, Miles for Mola, on May 1st specifically aimed at raising funds to reach our USD40,000 goal for one of our flagship projects in Zimbabwe, Mola Wildlife Coexistence Program.

African Bush Camps is proud to announce the official opening of Khwai Leadwood, our newest camp, located on the edge of the Khwai River, one of the permanent channels of the mighty Okavango Delta.

Mana Pools is one of the last true wildernesses, our ambition is to offer a variety of experiences. This has led us to opening two new camps in Mana Pools, Nyamatusi Camp and Nyamatusi Mahogany. While Nyamatusi Camp is going to be established as the main camp, the latter will be our dedicated family camp consisting of two tented suites and two family suites nestled under ancient mahogany trees on the lush banks of the mighty Zambezi River.

Bumi Hills Safari Lodge, recently re-opened after a three million dollar upgrade and refurbishment, welcomed its first guests with true Zimbabwean warmth on Christmas Day 2017. Bumi Hills is the perfect destination that combines the breath-taking views and vibrant sunsets of Lake Kariba with thrilling game drives, private lake cruises, sumptuous cuisine, wellness and rejuvenation at the spa and first-class hospitality. Rens Lipsius has always been filled with a love of nature and science, it is through this passion and his experimentation with camera and brush that he has become a formidable self-taught artist. African Bush Camps in collaboration with Untamed Travelling is thrilled to host Rens at Bumi Hills Safari Lodge on the shores of majestic Lake Kariba and within close proximity to Matusadona National Park. Rens, who is based in Paris, France will be our in-house artist for the month of February, he will be joined by aspiring artist Lieselotte Verbruggen.
