Zanzibar is advancing efforts to eliminate malaria as it aims to bolster the region’s tourism industry and blue economy ambitions. Officials emphasise that sustaining progress is vital to avoiding resurgence, with collective action involving government, private sector and community stakeholders at the forefront of the initiative.

Authorities have linked malaria elimination directly to economic resilience, health security, and visitor confidence. Tourism is a key driver of Zanzibar’s economy, alongside marine resource sectors.
