Zanzibar posts 10% rise in December 2025 arrivals
Zanzibar recorded 100,739 international tourist arrivals in December 2025, up 10% on December 2024, according to the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism. The month also outperformed November 2025’s 72,833 arrivals, a 38.3% month-on-month increase that points to sustained recovery in demand.
Europe led source markets with 68,621 visitors, followed by Africa with 18,586 (18.5%), Asia 7,516 (7.5%), the Americas 4,733 (4.7%) and Oceania 1,273 (1.3%). Italy was the top country market at 14.4% of arrivals, ahead of Poland (6.7%), France (6.6%), South Africa (6.0%) and Germany (5.0%). Most visitors arrived by air (92,421; 91.7%), with 8,308 via seaports. Authorities highlighted security and compliance as priorities, noting 450 overstay cases identified in 2025, while the mandatory travel insurance policy was reported to bolster visitor confidence.
