Zanzibar Leaders Urged to Boost Tourism Innovation

Zanzibar’s Second Vice-President, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, has called on local leaders and stakeholders to enhance creativity and innovation in the tourism sector. Speaking at the ‘Mswahili wa Kipemba Cultural Festival’ on Pemba Island, he emphasised the need for continued efforts to improve tourist attractions and promote the island internationally.

The festival, which showcases traditional transport, attire, and local cuisine, aims to attract more international visitors. Abdulla highlighted the crucial role of tourism in alleviating poverty, creating jobs, and driving economic growth in Zanzibar.

He urged the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage to prioritise the enhancement of Pemba's attractions and encouraged tourists arriving in Unguja to explore Pemba as well. Abdulla also reassured stakeholders about the progress of Pemba's airport development, which will enable direct international flights and further boost the region's tourism.
