Zambia Explores MICE Tourism to Drive Sector Growth

Zambia’s Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR), has launched a study on the potential of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism to boost economic growth. The research aims to position Zambia as a leading business tourism destination by attracting high-value travellers, stimulating infrastructure development, and enhancing global visibility. MICE tourism is a growing sector, projected to reach $1.44 trillion globally by 2025, and Zambia has already recorded a 67.5% revenue increase from business events over the past two years.
At the study’s launch, Minister of Tourism Rodney Sikumba highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening Zambia’s MICE capabilities through improved infrastructure, streamlined policies, and investment incentives. He called for collaboration between government bodies, the private sector, and development partners to implement the study’s recommendations. ZIPAR’s Interim Executive Director, Zali Chikumba, underscored the importance of aligning Zambia’s natural assets with global MICE trends to establish the country as a competitive business tourism hub in Africa.
