Zambia backs public – private tourism partnerships to expand jobs

Zambia’s Tourism Minister, Rodney Sikumba, has called for stronger government – industry collaboration to unlock sustainable growth and employment in the sector. Speaking at the 20th anniversary of Sandy’s Creations Resort and Retail in Chilanga on 14 December, he said private investment is vital for improving tourism products, strengthening local supply chains and supporting community development.

Pointing to Sandy’s Creations as an example, Sikumba noted the business now employs up to 150 people directly and supports numerous artisans, contractors and suppliers. He said the model aligns with government priorities on sustainable tourism, renewable energy and domestic travel, helping position the Lusaka – Chilanga corridor as an emerging hub. Company chair and co-founder Chris Findlay reflected on the venture’s growth as authorities signal closer public – private cooperation to scale quality, skills and jobs.
