Zambia and New Zealand Deepen Ties in Tourism and Conservation

Zambia and New Zealand have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in tourism, conservation, and sustainable investment. The move follows a courtesy visit by New Zealand’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Philip Hewitt, to Zambia’s Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, in Lusaka. Discussions focused on collaborative opportunities across tourism promotion, cultural exchange, environmental protection, and eco-investment.

Minister Sikumba underscored Zambia’s focus on sustainable tourism, highlighting initiatives such as eco-lodges, community conservancies, and nature-based enterprises. In light of a recent wildlife-related fatality involving a New Zealand visitor, he also outlined measures to improve visitor safety and mitigate human-wildlife conflict. High Commissioner Hewitt welcomed Zambia’s conservation efforts and expressed New Zealand’s interest in supporting initiatives that balance tourism growth, investment, and community engagement.
