Zambia and Angola have signed two significant agreements aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and cooperation: one supporting the development of the Lobito Corridor and another formalising air transport ties through a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA). The deals were announced during the 2025 Land-Linked Zambia Conference held at Ciela Resort in Chongwe, where President Hakainde Hichilema underscored the importance of infrastructure investment to facilitate intra-African trade.

The Lobito Corridor project, which links Zambia to Angola’s Atlantic coast via rail, is seen as critical to improving freight movement and export capacity for landlocked Zambia. The newly signed aviation agreement enables airlines from both countries to operate international flights between their territories, further aligning with broader goals of regional mobility and economic growth. The conference also highlighted increasing continental collaboration in the transport and logistics sector, drawing participants from 18 countries.
