Wilderness opens Sanctuary at Bisate in Rwanda
Wilderness has unveiled the Sanctuary at Bisate – a purpose-built wellness space in Rwanda’s volcanic highlands – now welcoming guests of Wilderness Bisate and Bisate Reserve. Rooted in Rwandan design and local craftsmanship, the facility focuses on restoration, reflection and connection to place, adding a wellness dimension to stays near Volcanoes National Park that typically centre on mountain gorilla trekking.
Developed with a minimal environmental footprint, the Sanctuary features hydrotherapy facilities – an ionised heated indoor lap pool engineered for responsible water use, steam room, sauna and ice bath – alongside private single and double treatment rooms, meditation pods and a forest-facing yoga deck. Treatments blend indigenous botanicals and traditional African practices with microbiome-focused science; design partners included Artichoke Interior Design and Black Sable Architecture, with most materials sourced locally through artisans such as Irebe. The opening strengthens Rwanda’s high-end offering and supports demand for sustainable, design-led wellness across luxury safari and conservation travel.
