Wilderness opens safari camp in Akagera National Park

Wilderness Rwanda has opened Magashi Peninsula, a new private safari retreat on a peninsula within Akagera National Park, managed by African Parks with the Rwanda Development Board. Now welcoming guests from 4 December 2025, the launch adds high‑end capacity to Rwanda’s safari offering and supports conservation and community initiatives in the country’s last remaining savannah ecosystem.

The camp comprises a private four‑bed villa and two standalone suites, each with a plunge pool and Star Bed, designed for seclusion and low impact by Luxury Frontiers and Artichoke Interior Design. Wilderness says the opening strengthens its conservation footprint through predator monitoring, invasive plant management and community programmes, with many staff hired locally. Four Rwandan guides from sister camp Magashi have become the first in the country to earn FGASA qualifications – including Rwanda’s first female FGASA‑certified guide – as the property promotes skills development alongside activities such as boating, night drives and catch‑and‑release fishing.
