Wilderness and Indego Africa have launched a partnership to support Rwandan women entrepreneurs through education, business development and improved market access. Announced at Indego Africa’s annual gala in New York, where a Wilderness Rwanda experience was auctioned to raise funds, the collaboration links community empowerment with tourism by integrating co-operative visits into guest itineraries and expanding retail of artisan products in Wilderness’ Rwanda camps.

Initial funding of US$10,000 from the Wilderness Trust is supporting a six‑month English literacy programme for 20 artisans, delivered by the School of Professionals in Kigali and tailored to different skill levels. Alongside rigorous monitoring and plans to stock items such as handwoven baskets and homeware, the initiative aims to strengthen income opportunities for women-led co-operatives and enhance authentic cultural engagement for travellers visiting Kigali, Volcanoes and Akagera national parks.
