Webinar Recording - Explore ‘off the beaten path’ experiences with NAT

New African Territories represents private, independently owned camps and lodges in Kenya and Tanzania, situated in prime wildlife and wilderness locations, offering a range of different experiences, from fly camping adventures in the Mathew’s Mountains, wild walking in the Loita Hills, incredible wildlife viewing, authentic culture, fishing in tranquil rivers or in the big blue ocean and everything in between.

Sustainability:

While each camp in our portfolio is independently owned and managed, they share a common commitment to building strong community relations, supporting conservation efforts, and promoting sustainability. These like-minded properties all demonstrate a deep care for their locations, local communities, and the planet.

Our camps consistently implement conscientious practices, including the use of solar power, reduction of single-use plastics, recycling initiatives, water conservation measures, and environmentally friendly cleaning products. We also prioritize creating a positive work environment for our staff, and supporting local economic development through local purchasing and hyper local employment practices. Currently, we are working towards obtaining accreditations for all camps to provide tangible recognition of these efforts. For example, Tawi Lodge maintains a Gold Eco status, while Kitich Forest Camp is in the process of reapplying for certification with Ecotourism Kenya.

Conservation is a key focus across our portfolio, with each camp supporting local initiatives in unique ways. This support ranges from conservation fees to the creation of private conservancies and partnerships with local conservation organizations operating within their respective ecosystems. To turtle monitoring projects, tree planting and habitat restoration.... (with the exception of Manzili, as they are located in Nairobi meaning conservation and community looks a little different).

Our commitment to creating positive impacts within local communities is equally strong. Each camp tailors its approach based on specific community needs and desires. Our outreach projects span various areas, including education (building classrooms, sponsoring school fees, and supporting teachers' salaries), healthcare (supporting local clinics, donating supplies, and organizing dental and eye clinics), and economic development such as buying local crafts etc. Celebrating and preserving local culture is also a fundamental aspect of our operations. We strive to foster an appreciation for indigenous knowledge and practices among our guests, always ensuring that cultural sharing is authentic and controlled by the community. This approach allows us to offer unique, enriching experiences while respecting and supporting local traditions. We want the culture to be ingrained throughout the whole stay to foster a deeper connection, not an afternoon activity.

With human /wildlife conflict one size does not fit all. This is why community led conservation is so important and works hand in hand. Each camp / area will have its own problems and solutions to mitigate human wildlife conflict, from education, awareness, to full on conservation projects. For example, in Samburu and Kitich Forest Camp, it will be mitigated by implementing management and grazing plans with the local pastoral communities, to ensure that there is less chance of HWC

In Amboseli, Tawi has leased 3000 acres of plots of land, to ensure that there is a safe elephant corridor in place for the elephants to keep traditional migratory routes open to move through to the Chyuls and Tsavo. In the Mara supporting Mara Elephant Project will collar problem elephants so they can monitor where the elephant are, track them and prevent them marauding someones maizefield -
