Webinar Recording - An environmental, product and experience overview: Ker & Downey Botswana
An insightful overview of the history & extraordinary product range of Ker & Downey in Botswana – KDB is strategically situated in the most sought-after safari destinations within Botswana, notably the magnificent Okavango Delta and the expansive Kalahari region. Celebrated for its exclusive and time-honoured safari experiences, the company is committed to delivering exceptional wildlife encounters, impeccable service, and a strong ethos of environmental stewardship.
Their unique offerings encompass a diverse array of landscapes, from the lush waterways of the delta to the vast, open desert of the Kalahari. Complementing these extraordinary safaris, Ker & Downey also operates a boutique hotel in Maun, the ideal gateway for guests seeking comfortable accommodations before or after their safari journey. This carefully curated presence ensures a seamless and immersive experience in Botswana’s pristine wilderness.
Summary of key points:
- Ker & Downey Botswana is located in primarily private and exclusive wilderness concessions and private reserves. Concessions have a maximum of 24 guests (though some are less), so space for exploration in large wilderness areas is a given!
- Ker & Downey’s hospitality primary focus is on excellent out of camp guided experiences – all our concession/ reserve guides are walking qualified (except Okuti as walking is not permitted there), meaning knowledgeable guides with years of experience and the possibility to walk whenever your clients wish, even if they decide that on game drive.
- Our hospitality is carefully curated in camp – family styled dining, great service from friendly team members, good home style cuisine (Western) and a great beverage offering (featuring good South African organic wines).
- Dinaka is a 40 000 Ha (98 800 Acres) private Kalahari reserve. Superb desert wildlife including strong brown hyena populations, eland, oryx & black maned lions.13 pumped boreholes ensure great waterhole game viewing (both by vehicle and then in secluded photographic ground level hides). Because it is accessed by air easily from Maun (30 minutes flight), we connect seamlessly into the Okavango (no stopping in Maun). Dinaka is therefore easily combined with the Okavango and can be considered part of the main circuit.
- Shinde is a perfect water and land camp – great game, great boating and mekoro all year round. Vumbura is our neighbor to the West and Kwando to our East. Shinde and Shinde Footsteps camps are both young, 5 years old only.
- Kanana is located West of Chief’s Camp, bordering Moremi Game Reserve. The expansive floodplains and verdant riverine forests ensure year-round superb game viewing. Kanana has been rebuilt and re-opened on the 02nd of April. As one of the oldest brands in photo tourism in Botswana, we’re fortunate to truly have an incredible array of concessions and areas to operate in.
- Okuti was fully refurbished in March 2024. Located in the wildlife rich Xakanaxa region, the camp is small (16 guests in 7 rooms only) but what I love about this camp is that we have game drives, mekoro and boating. Boating is in the smaller speed boats but also there is a double deck barge which we recently launched. Guests will enjoy barge brunches; sunset cruises and the upper deck ensure uninterrupted views of the Okavango’s largest lagoons and diverse river channel – the Maunachira.
- Maxa opened 20 March, hosts 12 guests only and is located in NG12 to the North of Vumbura. Beautiful habitats, water ensure a beautiful Okavango experience – mekoro, walking, game drives.
