WCape govt launches R5m Tourism Challenge Fund
The Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) has introduced a new initiative called the Growth for Jobs Tourism Challenge Fund, worth R5m, in collaboration with the Western Cape Government. This fund aims to support tourism development projects and programs in the categories of Tourism Infrastructure Support and Tourism Product Development Support.
The fund will provide financial support to development programmes and projects that benefit Western Cape-based tourism attractions and businesses. DEDAT invites organisations engaged in these areas to apply for project funding through this fund.
Western Cape minister of finance and economic opportunities, Mireille Wenger welcomed the launch of the fund, saying, "Our tourism and hospitality sector was hit hard by the Covid pandemic but has seen a remarkable recovery over the last year, with international arrivals reaching 100% of their 2019 figures in February this year. To enable future growth, we need to remove barriers that stand in the way of the sector, ensure we get the basics right, and help support small businesses to add new and exciting experiences, while investing in infrastructure that will unlock success. This is what Growth for Jobs is all about."
