Wayo Africa Reveals Authentic Luxury Look for Newly Updated Serengeti Green Camp

Wayo Africa has built a reputation over the past 20+ years for their authentic, light footprint safaris. Today they are excited to reveal how, in line with their new partnership with Wilderness, Wayo’s Serengeti Green Camps will be going through an upgrading process over the next eight months.

Our new Wayo Africa Serengeti Green Camps celebrate the bringing together of the very best of local Tanzanian craftspeople with a true connection to nature”, noted Wayo Owner and Director, Jean du Plessis. Each tent, designed in-house by the Wayo team, comprises an organic formed stretch canvas outer which blends into the surrounding landscape. The interior of each tent offers high-end comfort, excellent beds, crisp linens and plenty of space with unique design pieces which are locally crafted, made from often upcycled materials. Each bedhead, for example, is made by the Wayo fundi team, using woven banana leaves collected from Mto Wa Mbu. With natural forms and textures each tent will really connect you with the surrounding landscape of the Serengeti in an authentic environment which has a high-end feel.

For years we have fought convention at Wayo Africa and insisted that our bathrooms have the minimum impact on nature by installing compost toilets and bucket bush showers. We will continue to sensitively manage all water consumption to ensure it has the minimum impact on the landscape as part of a wider long term water management system. In our new tents we will also continue to have our lovely bucket showers but our loos will be located inside the main tent with a gauze wall between you and the Serengeti - a loo with a view!”, Jean added.

The camps’ super stylish new tents will continue to have the lightest footprint, operating predominantly on solar power and pioneering other power technologies. With no plastic in camp and, as per all Wayo camps, the company will continue to offer healthy, locally sourced meals with any waste being safely composted and transported back to Arusha.

We look forward to sharing photography of our new Serengeti Green Camps in January 2023, and to  welcoming guests to the wonders of the Serengeti”, he concluded.
