Virgin Atlantic Boosts Cape Town Flights to 11 Per Week from December
Virgin Atlantic is expanding its Cape Town service with four additional weekly return flights from December, taking its peak operation to up to 11 flights per week between London Heathrow and Cape Town. The additional VS414 service departs Heathrow on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 December, with the return VS415 service operating from Cape Town on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12 December. The route is operated by Boeing 787-9 aircraft and marks 30 years of Virgin Atlantic flying between the UK and South Africa.
Chief commercial officer Dave Geer said the airline would consider extending the seasonal service to year-round operations if the expanded schedule proved commercially successful, noting that Cape Town capacity is increasing by approximately 50% this winter, while Johannesburg capacity is growing by 80%. Wesgro CEO and Cape Town Air Access spokesperson Wrenelle Stander welcomed the expansion, citing the role of increased connectivity in supporting tourism, trade and investment in the Western Cape. Virgin Atlantic's seasonal Cape Town service resumed on 15 October, with the airline also eyeing growth in connecting traffic through Heathrow to destinations including the US.
