United Nigeria Airlines Admitted to IATA Interline Agreement, Opening Path to Global Partnerships
United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) has been admitted to the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Multilateral Interline Traffic Agreement (MITA) for passenger operations, marking a significant step in the airline's transition from a domestic carrier to a globally connected operator. Confirmed via IATA Memorandum ADMIN/INTERLINE/4811 following compliance with PSC Resolution 780, the admission enables UNA to enter into code-sharing and interline partnerships with hundreds of IATA-member airlines worldwide. Passengers will benefit from single-ticket itineraries, unified baggage check-in, and smoother connections between UNA flights and those of major international carriers.
The development positions UNA to attract international connecting passengers and expand its effective route network beyond its current domestic footprint. Public Relations Officer Chibuike Uloka described the milestone as a pivotal moment in the airline's global expansion strategy, noting that MITA membership validates UNA's operational standards and aligns the airline with global aviation best practices. The admission reflects a broader trend of African carriers strengthening their international credentials and connectivity as demand for intra-African and intercontinental travel continues to grow.
