UN Tourism sets road map for 2027 International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism
UN Tourism has launched a Road Map to guide preparations for the United Nations‑mandated International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism in 2027. Welcomed by the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability (CTS) meeting in Madrid on 2 February, the plan signals a shift from dialogue to delivery and aims to help Member States position tourism as a transformative sector within the post-2030 agenda.
The process will be anchored in the CTS, guided by a Steering Committee of Member States, informed by consultations through Regional Commission meetings and endorsed by the Executive Council. UN Tourism Secretary‑General Shaikha Al Nuwais underlined that sustainability and resilience are ongoing processes, while CTS Chair and Costa Rica’s Tourism Minister William Rodríguez López said the International Year is a chance to turn shared ambitions into more concrete and coordinated action.
