The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has unveiled plans to modernise the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, enhancing its appeal as a top tourism and conservation site. UWA’s Director of Conservation, John Makombo, recently outlined a vision to revitalise the gardens by upgrading visitor facilities, preserving botanical species, and ensuring safety through collaboration with local authorities. This project follows the merger of UWA with the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC), which entrusted UWA with the gardens’ stewardship.

Plans include the removal of illegal paths, better access control, and a more organised layout, providing local and international visitors a well-preserved space for birdwatching, exploration, and relaxation. The UWA is also working with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) to ensure that tourism and ongoing research harmoniously coexist within the gardens.
