Uganda Wildlife Authority Appoints New Executive Director

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has announced the official transition of leadership, with Dr James Musinguzi assuming the role of Executive Director following the formal handover from outgoing director Mr Sam Mwandha. The ceremony, held 2 April at UWA’s Kampala headquarters, was attended by key stakeholders including Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, and senior representatives from government, conservation partners, and the tourism sector.
Minister Bahinduka and other officials commended Mr Mwandha’s contributions in strengthening UWA’s conservation mandate and positioning Uganda as a model in wildlife protection and tourism development. Dr Musinguzi outlined his strategic priorities, including revenue diversification, enhanced community engagement, habitat restoration, and tackling wildlife crime. His leadership marks a new phase for UWA as it looks to deepen its impact in conservation and support Uganda’s growing nature-based tourism sector.
