Uganda Tourism Board Suspends Tour Operators Amid Fraud Investigation
The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has suspended the operating licences of 18 tour companies following allegations of fraud and misconduct. The provisional suspensions, announced in a public notice, are part of a wider crackdown to protect the integrity of Uganda’s tourism sector. UTB has advised travellers and industry stakeholders to avoid dealings with the affected operators while investigations are ongoing.
UTB’s Public Relations Manager, Dr. Simplicious Gessa, stated that the action aims to prevent further harm to consumers and safeguard the country’s tourism reputation. Coming amid efforts to bolster post-pandemic recovery, the crackdown reaffirms regulatory commitment to ensuring professionalism in a sector critical to Uganda’s economy.
