Uganda to Mark World Tourism Day 2025 in Arua City, West Nile
Uganda has launched its World Tourism Day 2025 celebrations, selecting Arua City in the West Nile region as the national host. Speaking at the press briefing on 2 September, Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, Minister of State for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, announced that national activities will take place throughout September, culminating in the main event on 27 September under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”
The celebrations aim to spotlight the West Nile region’s untapped tourism potential, with attractions including Mt. Wati, Ajai Wildlife Reserve, the River Nile’s transboundary flow, and key cultural heritage sites. A series of exhibitions, familiarisation trips, and community-focused events will be held nationwide to promote tourism-led development. The initiative forms part of Uganda’s broader National Development Plan and Tenfold Growth Strategy, reinforcing tourism as a tool for inclusive growth and regional equity.
