Uganda’s Entebbe airport sees record passenger numbers in August

Entebbe International Airport achieved a historic milestone in August 2024, handling an unprecedented 212,701 international passengers. This surge represents an average of 6,861 passengers daily, marking the highest monthly figure ever recorded at the airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority reports that 108,055 passengers departed, whilst 104,646 arrived. This surpasses the previous record of 198,961 set in December 2023.

July 2024 saw the third-highest monthly total with 195,909 passengers, followed by August 2023 with 191,507.

Cargo operations also thrived, with 5,410 metric tonnes processed in August 2024, comprising 3,525 tonnes of exports and 1,885 tonnes of imports.

The national carrier, Uganda Airlines, has contributed significantly to this growth by expanding its network. Recent additions include flights to Abuja, Nigeria, complementing existing services to Lagos. The airline aims to add 15 more destinations, further boosting Entebbe's international traffic.
