Uganda and Mozambique Sign Tourism MoU at Maputo Roadshow
The Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam hosted a tourism roadshow in Maputo on 8 October 2026, bringing together tourism stakeholders from Uganda and Mozambique to deepen bilateral cooperation and expand tourist flows between the two countries. A key outcome of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO) and the Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators of Mozambique (AVITUM), establishing a framework for joint tourism promotion, business partnerships, and the development of multi-destination tourism packages.
The roadshow facilitated 100 business-to-business meetings via a virtual platform, connecting Ugandan and Mozambican tour operators to explore commercial partnerships and joint packages. Uganda's High Commissioner to Mozambique, retired Colonel Fred Mwesigye, highlighted the country's offering - including mountain gorilla trekking, wildlife safaris, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism - while Telma Sono of Mozambique's National Institute for Tourism (INATUR) welcomed the initiative and underscored the value of private-sector collaboration and knowledge exchange. The agreement is expected to improve the visibility of both destinations in regional and international tourism markets.
