The Gambia Expands Tourism Offerings with Beach Upgrades and New Investments

The Gambia showcased its expanding tourism offerings at FITUR 2025, with Director General of The Gambia Tourism Board, Abubacarr Camara, highlighting efforts to enhance the country’s appeal. Key initiatives include significant improvements to the country’s beaches, with increased maintenance and the planting of over a thousand coconut trees. Investment in new hospitality projects, such as Ngala Lodge and Metze Hotel, is also expanding tourism beyond the coastline and into the hinterland, broadening the country’s appeal.
Camara emphasised The Gambia’s strategy to diversify beyond traditional sun-and-sea tourism, with a growing focus on eco-tourism, cultural tourism, and river-based experiences. He encouraged greater collaboration in promoting The Gambia as a leading travel destination, inviting visitors to experience first-hand the country’s evolving tourism landscape. These developments position The Gambia as a dynamic and competitive player in Africa’s tourism industry.
