Tete Airport suspends night flights after runway light vandalism

Night operations at Tete Airport, Mozambique, have been temporarily cancelled for safety reasons after electrical equipment on the runway was vandalised. Airport operator Aeroportos de Moçambique said services will remain suspended until lighting systems are restored – a disruption that affects evening connectivity for travellers and cargo in the province.

The company reported that eight runway approach lights were damaged and power cables of 150 and 200 watts stolen, compromising required illumination levels. Replacement work is under way, and the operator has appealed for the public to report vandalism that endangers civil aviation and undermines normal airport operations.
