Tanzania’s Police Force, through the Arusha Region Traffic Division, has trained over 800 tourist vehicle drivers in preparation for the upcoming tourism season. The initiative aims to raise standards in road safety and service delivery in the tourism transport sector. Speaking at the launch of the training, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police William Mkonda emphasised the importance of ensuring drivers are well-versed in traffic laws and professional conduct, noting their key role in shaping visitors’ perceptions of the country.

The sessions, conducted in collaboration with the Tanzania Tour Guides Association, focused on road safety principles, defensive driving, and adherence to regulations. Organisers highlighted that such training is essential to reducing accidents and boosting the country’s reputation as a safe destination. The effort forms part of a broader national strategy to prepare frontline tourism operators, enhance visitor safety, and ultimately support continued growth in tourist arrivals.
