Tanzania Leverages AFCON 2027 to Promote Cultural Tourism Across Regions

Tanzania’s tourism sector is preparing to showcase the country’s cultural heritage during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), co-hosted with Kenya and Uganda. The Tanzania Tourism Sector Safety and Protection (TTSSP) has launched a stakeholder initiative aimed at using the tournament as a platform to position mainland Tanzania as a diverse, culturally rich destination. With AFCON 2027 set to take place from 19 June to 18 July, the TTSSP has outlined a multi-regional strategy covering the Northern Zone (Arusha, Kilimanjaro), Coastal Zone (Dar es Salaam, Tanga), Southern Highlands (Iringa, Mbeya), and Western & Central Zones (Dodoma, Kigoma). Key activities include promoting tribal heritage visits, UNESCO-listed sites, and traditional crafts to attract investment, support community development, and widen the tourism offering ahead of the global event.
