Tanzania launches Guardians of the Peak Season II boosting Kilimanjaro tourism
A youth‑led initiative, Guardians of the Peak Season II, has been launched to promote Tanzania’s tourism potential in global markets, including China. The programme focuses on accelerating clean energy use on Mount Kilimanjaro to reduce degradation from firewood and charcoal, strengthening the destination’s sustainability credentials and protecting a key national symbol.
Under the initiative, students will take part in a Mount Kilimanjaro expedition from 20–31 January 2026, participating in conservation activities such as tree planting and climate advocacy. Supported by the Tanzania China Friendship Promotion Association and the Tanzania Film Board, the campaign aims to empower communities around the mountain through sustainable energy adoption while advancing tourism growth, public education and cultural diplomacy.
