TAAG Angola Airlines Eyes Direct Luanda–Houston Route by 2027

TAAG Angola Airlines is planning to launch a direct route between Luanda and Houston by 2027, subject to Angola receiving a Category 1 safety rating from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The route would connect Luanda’s Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport with Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, marking the only nonstop service between the two cities. The news follows the airline’s recent addition of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which is expected to operate the long-haul route.
The Houston service forms part of TAAG’s broader fleet modernisation strategy aimed at expanding its long-haul capacity. The new Dreamliner, leased from AerCap, seats 313 passengers across three cabin classes and will complement existing widebody aircraft on international routes to destinations such as São Paulo, Havana, Lisbon, and Frankfurt. Currently operating a fleet of 26 aircraft, the Angolan flag carrier has three more 787s on order to support its growth plans.
