Strategic Investments Fuel Growth in Ethiopia’s Conference Tourism Sector

Ethiopia is seeing a resurgence in its hotel and tourism sectors, driven by government-led infrastructure projects aimed at establishing Addis Ababa as a continental hub for conference tourism. Speaking to Fana Digital, Aster Solomon, President of the Addis Ababa Hotel Owners Association, highlighted developments such as the Adwa Victory Memorial and the Addis International Convention Center as pivotal in attracting international events to the capital.

According to Solomon, this renewed focus has revitalised a hotel industry previously impacted by stagnation and global travel disruptions. The government’s efforts, including urban development and logistical upgrades, have improved the visitor experience and generated fresh investment in hospitality. She noted the importance of continued expansion of facilities, workforce development, and support incentives such as tax exemptions to ensure Ethiopia remains competitive in the growing meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) market.
