South African National Parks (SANParks) will close Cape Town’s Lion's Head Jeep Track from 20 April to 20 June 2026 for critical maintenance work aimed at improving trail safety and long-term infrastructure stability. The Jeep Track - the most direct hiking route from Signal Hill Road - will be strictly off-limits to all walkers, runners, and hikers during this period, with SANParks cautioning that the reopening date may shift depending on weather conditions and project milestones.
Three alternative routes remain accessible during the closure: the Kramat Trail on Signal Hill Road, the Upper Rhine Road Trail, and the Kloof Road Trail. The main Lion's Head parking area will remain open for hikers using the Kramat path, which begins on the saddle between Lion's Head and Signal Hill. Visitors are advised to allow additional time when using the alternative routes and to follow all on-site signage and staff instructions. SANParks will provide regular progress updates through its official communication channels throughout the two-month project.
