South African Airways to launch new route to DRC
South African Airways (SAA) is set to introduce a new flight route connecting Johannesburg to Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), starting 1 November. The service will operate five times weekly from OR Tambo International Airport to Lubumbashi International Airport.
Carla da Silva, SAA's General Manager of Sales Marketing Distribution and E-Commerce, highlighted the route's potential to boost economic growth and strengthen business ties between the two nations. The outbound flight will depart Johannesburg at 10:50, arriving in Lubumbashi at 13:20, with the return flight leaving at 14:10 and landing at 17:15 in Johannesburg, Monday through Friday.
In addition to the new route, SAA has launched a mobile app available on Android, iOS, and Windows platforms. The app streamlines travel management, allowing passengers to review bookings, upgrade tickets, and access real-time flight updates. Da Silva described it as "the ultimate travel companion", emphasising its convenience for managing SAA flights and accessing travel information.
