South Africa Trains Indian Travel Trade on New ETA Process Ahead of Cricket World Cup

South African Tourism has conducted a series of trade engagement sessions in India to build awareness of the country's new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system. The initiative included its first digital ETA workshop for the Pune travel trade, held on 22 September 2026 in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs. The session drew 65 trade partners and covered key aspects of the process, including application procedures, 48-hour processing timelines, child applications and group travel handling.

The workshops form part of a broader effort to equip Indian travel agents with the knowledge needed to guide eligible clients through the digital authorisation system ahead of anticipated travel demand. Industry response has been positive, with trade representatives welcoming the direct engagement from South African Tourism and Department of Home Affairs officials. The initiative takes on added significance with the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 expected to drive a significant uptick in Indian visitors to South Africa.
