South Africa’s Kruger National Park upgrading facilities

The South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed that the ongoing infrastructure upgrades at Kruger National Park are proceeding as planned, with several key facilities already refurbished and operational.

The refurbishment efforts, which began in July 2022, are targeted to be near completion by June 2025. Facilities that have been upgraded and are now operational include the Letaba Shop, Lower Sabie Petrol Station, Sweni Trails Camp, and various tourism units across different camps.

Additionally, the viewing deck at Skukuza Rest Camp and the restaurant viewing deck at Olifants Camp, both of which were impacted by termites, have been repaired.

Looking ahead, the Phalaborwa Wildlife Activity Hub (Phase 1B), which is 40% complete, and the upgrading of staff accommodations at several rest camps are among the ongoing projects. The Shangoni Gate Development (Phase I), including the Shangoni Reception facility, is also progressing, currently at 65% construction.

SANParks has emphasised its commitment to improving the infrastructure and visitor experience at Kruger National Park, one of South Africa's most iconic wildlife destinations.
