South Africa opens first slow hiking trail
In a groundbreaking move, CapeNature has launched South Africa's inaugural slow hiking trail at De Mond Nature Reserve near Arniston. The Damara Trail, unveiled on World Tourism Day, offers a unique two-day experience designed for all ages and fitness levels.
The trail, spanning 16.5km over two days, features gentle slopes and scenic rest stops. Hikers camp overnight on a wooden deck, immersed in nature. The journey concludes on Arniston beach, with an optional second night in the quaint fishing village.
Dr Ashley Naidoo, CapeNature's CEO, emphasises the trail's focus on connecting with nature at a leisurely pace. Interpretive signage along the route provides insights into local flora, fauna, and cultural heritage.
De Mond Nature Reserve, known for its picturesque coastal views and rich birdlife, now positions itself as a prime destination for both novice and experienced hikers seeking a fresh perspective on the Western Cape's natural beauty.
Bookings for this innovative outdoor experience open on 4 October, promising an unforgettable journey through South Africa's stunning landscape.
