South African Tourism is ramping up efforts to attract Indian travellers with major visa reforms, MICE sector expansion, and discussions on direct flight routes. These initiatives will be unveiled at the 2025 India Roadshow, taking place from 18th to 20th March across Delhi, Chennai, and Mumbai. India remains a priority market for South Africa, with 75,541 Indian arrivals in 2024, marking a strong post-pandemic recovery. The introduction of an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system and a Trusted Tour Operator Scheme (TTOS) will streamline visa applications, while ongoing talks on direct flights aim to improve connectivity.

MICE tourism is a key focus, with 49.6% of Indian visitors in 2024 travelling for business, including 20.2% under MICE-related trips. The roadshow will highlight South Africa’s appeal for corporate events, incentive travel, and luxury retreats, supported by world-class venues and unique team-building experiences. Additionally, growing demand for luxury safaris, family travel, and adventure tourism will see over 40 exhibitors, including nine SMMEs, showcase bespoke travel offerings. As South Africa prepares for its 2025 G20 Presidency, these tourism strategies aim to strengthen trade ties, enhance accessibility, and drive sustainable growth in one of its most important source markets.
